Welcome, welcome, welcome everyone to November! Can you believe how fast 2025 has flown by? With the holidays around the corner and the weather allowing us to still wear shorts, it’s safe to say that the streets are getting busier. With interest rates being the lowest it’s been for quite some time, it’s evident that interest in Coachella Valley / High Desert real estate is rising. Before the holidays find their way, it’s safe to say that there’s no better time than NOW to pencil in the calendar some essential home maintenance to nurture your Desert Estate.
November, a time of gratitude and kicking off the holiday season, is all about optimizing comfort, refreshing your environment, and preparing for the season ahead. Think of it as the perfect opportunity to prep before your house is filled with your loved ones and new memories. And as the holidays approach, now is the perfect time to focus on home maintenance, especially for those of us enjoying the unique beauty of desert living. In this blog post, I’m going to share five tips to support your desert home for the fall season before the calendar starts filling up with events and the cooler months approach. With these tips, you’ll optimize comfort and refresh your environment before the holiday season.
So, whether you’re new to desert living or a seasoned resident, utilize these tips within your calendar planning to ensure your home remains a cozy and welcoming sanctuary all season long.

Adjusting to Cooler Temperatures
As autumn settles in, it’s time to welcome longer nights and cooler temperatures. For those who love hosting gatherings, it’s crucial to ensure your home is ready for guests and holiday decorations. Our maintenance needs change with the season, and while desert conditions mean we don’t require the same preparations as other regions, best believe we still have specific areas within our homes that need to be addressed.

November Desert Home Maintenance Guide
Sealing Entry Points
As temperatures drop, desert critters like scorpions, rodents, and insects start seeking warmth indoors. To avoid unwanted visitors, make sure to seal all entry points in your home. Conduct a thorough perimeter check around garages, kitchens, and utility rooms, paying attention to areas where light seeps through, such as around doors and windows. Use silicone caulking, steel wool, or expandable foam to fill in cracks and small openings, particularly under sinks and utility connections.
Winterize Outdoor Faucets + Irrigation Systems
Best believe brief overnight freezes can wreak havoc on exposed pipes. It’s important that you wrap hose bibs and spigots with foam faucet covers or insulated tape, focusing on shaded areas and high desert zones. Turn off and drain irrigation systems not in use, particularly for non-native plants. Remove any above-ground timers or backflow devices and store them in a dry area to prevent damage.
Testing Smoke + Carbon Monoxide Detectors
With cooler outdoor temperatures comes increased indoor warmth from fireplaces and heaters. Ensure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in top working order by testing them regularly. If there’s no consistent alarm sound, replace the batteries or the entire unit if necessary. Make sure to check the manufacturing date on each device, and if it’s more than 10 years old, consider upgrading to a newer model with a sealed 10-year battery.
Refreshing Your Entryways
Your entryway sets the tone as guests arrive for holiday gatherings. Make it inviting by sweeping away leaves, dust, and cobwebs. Wash or replace your front doormat, and clean your porch lights. Consider adding a festive touch with a new wreath or a potted cactus in a decorative container. A small gesture for delivery workers, like a bottle of water or a snack, can also add warmth and community spirit.
Inspecting Roof + Attic Ventilation
With fall leaves and desert winds, roofs can collect debris that may go unnoticed. Check for any damage or blockages that might affect ventilation. Clean your solar panels to improve energy efficiency, and inspect for missing tiles or signs of wear. Pay attention to roof valleys and chimney areas to ensure nothing blocks proper airflow. Good circulation keeps your attic dry and mold-free through the winter months.
BONUS :: Roof + Gutter Maintenance
After a long summer of sun and monsoons, your roof and gutters deserve attention. Clear away any debris, check for signs of damage, and make sure drainage systems are functioning properly. A little preventative maintenance now helps you avoid costly repairs down the road.
